I can’t express enough the commitment to the college and to the student experience Aaron has shown over the last year. There is a saying that appeared in a report delivered in 1856 by Reverend W. J. Kennedy who was the Inspector of Schools for Lancashire and the Isle of Man in Britain.

“Just as it is almost proverbial that, if you want any business done for you, you should ask a busy man to do it, and not a man of leisure, so it is the laborious scholar, who is working hard at languages, who picks up, nay, actually reads and studies more of other subjects than the rest of his fellows at school or college.”

This quote is one that is most fitting on the work that Aaron caries out. In March 1895 a version with “busy person” instead of “busy man” was printed, and I make this note in allegiance to Aaron’s work on equity. His desire to learn about student success through the college experience, his inspired work on equity and his drive to work with all schools, disciplines and faculty has left me grateful to have a colleague that forwards the work of the college. During this unprecedented year, Aaron has been a guiding light in not only the work we do as a college, but as a leader in his discipline as we navigated the world of remote learning. – Jim Lynch, Assistant Vice President of Academics, excerpt from AY2020-21 annual review

Jen Wold's family
Good evening Prof. Fried,

I just wanted to say thank you for all that you have done to make my time at MV an enjoyable one. Your class, your willingness to be available, and the fact that you ALWAYS go the extra mile for your students is so appreciated.

Going back to college after a ridiculous amount of years was daunting. I was terrified of failing and letting this last chance at my dream slip away. The fact that you cared and patiently answered all my questions made such a difference.

Today would have been my pinning for nursing. Tomorrow would have been my graduation day. I wish that I had been able to celebrate traditionally, but nothing in my world tends to be traditional. So, instead of hunting you down on campus to say thank you, and that I truly do appreciate you and your dedication- I’m doing it here. You didn’t just change my life- and that’s the beauty of it all. My entire family is benefiting from the education I received. I attached a pic of my Wonderful World of Wold. If you ever doubt that you are making a difference- remember that in my corner of the world, you did.

Thank you, for everything. I wish you the absolute best!

Respectfully,

Jen Wold (email dated 7 May, 2020)
